Doctors arrested for falsifying reports

What’s the matter

Two doctors have been arrested for allegedly tampering with the blood test report of the Pune teenager who drove a drunken Porsche into a motorcycle last week, killing two people.

Dr. Ajay Tawre and Dr. Shri Hari Harnor of Sasoon Hospital were arrested by the Pune Crime Branch in a high-profile investigation.

Dr Tawre, the head of the hospital’s forensic laboratory, was initially linked to reports that the teenager, who is currently in an observation home, tested negative for alcohol.

Why is this story important?

Early Sunday morning, the alleged drunk minor drove a Porsche into two software engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya (24) and Ashwini Koshta (24), who were sitting on motorcycles, killing both of them.

The case and the subsequent release of the minor on bail under the Juvenile Justice Act sparked sharp criticism and protests.

As part of the bail conditions, the minor was required to cooperate with the Yerwada traffic police for 15 days and write an essay about the accident.

JJB cancels bail

Pune police filed a review petition in the juvenile court seeking to try the boy as an adult and review the May 19 order. On Tuesday, the boy’s father, a well-known Pune-based builder, was arrested. On Wednesday, the juvenile court cancelled the 17-year-old’s bail and ordered 14 days of judicial custody, but did not decide whether he should be treated as an adult amid widespread outrage.

Grandfather of a teenager arrested

On Saturday, the grandfather of the 17-year-old boy from Pune was arrested.

The arrest came after the family driver claimed that the grandfather had wrongfully imprisoned him and pressured him to take responsibility for the accident.

Based on the driver’s complaint, the Yerawada police have registered a separate offence against the teenager’s grandfather and father under sections 365 (abduction with intent to secretly and unlawfully confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or confining a person) of the Indian Penal Code.

Teenager’s father remanded in custody until June 7

Separately, the teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, was remanded in custody on Friday until June 7.

According to police, the real estate developer gave the car to his son even though he knew that he did not have a driver’s license.

A special court in Pune also remanded five other accused, including the owner and employees of two bars where the youth had reportedly consumed alcohol before the incident.
