Delta lawmaker suspended for alleged gross misconduct

The Delta State House of Assembly has suspended Mr Matthew Omonade (APC-Ughelli North I) for alleged gross misconduct.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Dennis Guwor announced the suspension at a plenary session in Asaba on Tuesday.

His suspension followed an urgent request by the Majority Leader, Mr. Emeka Nwaobi (PDP-Aniocha North).

Guwor said the MP would be suspended for 14 days.

“Distinguished colleagues, the Member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency is hereby suspended from this House for 14 sitting days.

“In accordance with the provisions of the Powers and Privileges of the House of Representatives Act, Section H6, Laws of Delta State, 2008 and the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, the member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency shall immediately withdraw from the sittings of the House of Representatives for the period of suspension.

“The member representing Ughelli North 1 constituency should immediately return all government property in his possession, including official vehicle, to the administration.

“The Sergeant-at-Arms should escort the member of Ughelli North 1 out of the sacred hall,” he said.

The Speaker set up a committee to investigate the MP’s alleged gross misconduct and report to the House of Representatives within two weeks.

The Committee is chaired by Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowowo (PDP-Ethiope East). Its members include Group Chairman Perkins Umukoro, Emeka Asemuta (PDP-Ndokwa East) and Mrs Marilyn Okowa-Daramola (PDP-Ika North-East).
