Police investigate shooting at church in southwest Baltimore

KHIREE, A BURGLARY AND A SHOOTING THIS MORNING IN A CHURCH IN SOUTHWEST BALTIMORE. THAT’S WHAT THE BALTIMORE POLICE SAY. THEY HAD TO RIDE TO A CRIME SCENE OUTSIDE A CHURCH THIS SUNDAY WHILE INVESTIGATORS REPAIRED WHAT WAS HAPPENING INSIDE THE BUILDING. THERE’S NO RECEPTION AT ALL HERE. LIKE IT HAS BEEN SINCE I’VE LIVED NEAR HERE. THERE’S NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION HERE. SO THEY’RE GOING TO BREAK INTO AN ABANDONED CHURCH WHILE BALTIMORE POLICE SAY OFFICERS FOUND A 59-YEAR-OLD MAN SHOT IN THE ABANDONED PRIEST CATHEDRAL CHURCH ON SOUTH MOUNT STREET AT AROUND 8:00 AM SUNDAY MORNING. INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE THE MAN, WHOM POLICE EXPECT TO SURVIVE, WAS BREAKING INTO THE CHURCH WHEN HE WAS SHOT, BUT THEY’RE STILL WORKING TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE SHOOTING. THAT’S NOT GOOD. AND THE CHURCH IS EMPTY. AND THAT’S WHAT’S WORRYING ALL OF US. LIKE THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED. AND IT HAPPENED. THIS WOMAN, WHO REFUSED TO DISCLOSE HER NAME, SAYS SHE HAS LIVED IN THE AREA FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS AND IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHURCH BUILDING ON MOUNT STREET. I DEFINITELY FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE I LIVE NEAR HERE AND HAVE TO WALK BY HERE OFTEN. YES, BECAUSE PEOPLE ACTUALLY GO THERE AND SLEEP. NEIGHBORS ALSO TELL 11 NEWS THAT THEY HAVE HARDLY SEE PEOPLE ACTUALLY USING OR REPAIRING THE EMPTY CHURCH THAT THE POLICE KNOW IS CURRENTLY CONSTRUCTED. I NEVER SEE PEOPLE GOING IN OR OUT SO I THINK I WALKED INTO THIS EMPTY OLD CHURCH AND I THOUGHT WOW THAT WAS CRAZY. AS I MENTIONED THERE, IT SAYS “PRAISED CATHEDRAL” ON THE CHURCH. THERE IS A SIGN ON IT. WE HAVE BEEN TRIING SEVERAL TIMES ALL DAY TO GET THEM FOR A COMMENT BUT WE HAVE NOT HEARD A RESPONSE YET. LI
