In an unusual turn of events, two employees of the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) were suspended after an Instagram video they shot while on the job went viral. The employees, a bus driver named Hanumanthappa and a conductor named Anita, were seen in the video engaging in a light-hearted activity that caught the attention of social media users.

The viral video shows Hanumanthappa holding an umbrella inside the bus, humorously suggesting that passengers would get drenched in rain. The film, shot by conductor Anita, was originally intended to be entertaining, but it ultimately raised concerns about the safety of passengers and the condition of NWKRTC buses. Social media users questioned the adequacy of the buses and the safety measures in place for passengers.

The post was shared on X, where the viral video was captioned, “A video of a #NWKRTC bus driver travelling with an umbrella went viral claiming the roof was leaking. Turns out the driver and conductor were recording a video. There is not a drop of water on the umbrella and it was stupid of people to think the roof was leaking!”

In response to the incident, the NWKRTC took swift action. Priyanga, Managing Director of the NWKRTC, told news agency ANI, “However, the NWKRTC has suspended both the driver and the conductor for portraying the NWKRTC in a bad light and has initiated a regulatory inquiry against them.”

The transport company stressed that the video misrepresented the condition of its vehicles. “The NWKRTC took the incident seriously and inspected the bus. It was found that the roof of the bus was not airtight. The driver and the conductor had shot the video for entertainment,” Priyanga explained.
