1 person dead after serious accident in New Albany

NEW ALBANY, Indiana – One person was killed in a serious accident in southern Indiana on Sunday.

Because of the accident, New Albany police and fire department personnel were dispatched to the 3700 block of Klerner Lane around 8 p.m.

When emergency responders arrived, they saw a blue Ford Escape turned upside down.

The driver, who was the only one in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to initial investigations, excessive speed may have been a cause of the fatal accident.

New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said the vehicle was traveling north before the crash, then left the road and struck several mailboxes and plants.

The accident is currently still under investigation. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined.
