Microsoft ceases all sales and services in Russia

Microsoft has announced that it will stop all new sales of its products and services in Russia.

A blog post on Friday said: “Like the rest of the world, we are horrified, angry and saddened by the images and news from the war in Ukraine and condemn this unjustified, groundless and unlawful invasion by Russia.”

Microsoft said it had suspended “many aspects of its business in Russia” in line with “government sanctions decisions” and that it was working “in lockstep with the governments of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom.”

Brad Smith, the company’s president and vice chairman, said Microsoft has already identified cyberattacks on the country’s digital infrastructure and will continue to do so to inform the Ukrainian government.

“We continue to work proactively to assist cybersecurity officials in Ukraine in defending against Russian attacks, including most recently a cyberattack on a major Ukrainian broadcaster,” the company added.

The company had already removed the RT news apps from the Windows App Store and downgraded RT and Sputnik in its Bing search engine.
