Scottie Scheffler finished second in the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday, May 26, after being arrested at Valhalla Golf Club on May 17 and subsequently charged with second-degree assault on a police officer.

Scheffler, 27, and Keegan Bradley, 37, were both five strokes behind the winner Davis Riley‘s -14. Scheffler shot 1 over 71 in the last round.

Aside from his strong finish on Sunday, Scheffler spoke on Saturday about the death of fellow golfer Grayson Murray on May 27.

“Obviously, the news is still a mystery to me, but my thoughts are with his family and my prayers are with them all,” said Scheffler, who was ranked No. 1 before the tournament, according to the Associated Press. “I’ve gotten to know Grayson a little better over the last six months. There’s really no way to put into words how sad and tragic this is.”

Scheffler is scheduled to appear in court on June 3. The date was set for May 21 but was postponed, confirmed his attorney Steve Romines. According to SportsA lawyer said one of the reasons for the delay was that “Scheffler must be present at the hearing.”

Scheffler, who gave birth to his son Bennett with wife Meredith on May 8, is expected to participate in the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, the first round of which begins on June 6.

Scheffler was arrested on May 17 and charged with second-degree assault on a police officer and three misdemeanors, including third-degree criminal damage to property, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic officer’s traffic signals.

The incident involving Detective Bryan Gillis, who has since been disciplined by the Louisville Metro Police Department for failing to activate his body-worn camera during the arrest, occurred around 5:45 a.m.

Nearly an hour earlier, in a separate incident, a man was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus as he attempted to cross the street. The PGA has since identified the man as a vendor. John Mills.

Traffic to the golf course had been halted, and the second round of the day, originally scheduled to begin at 7:15 a.m., had been postponed to 8:35 a.m. by PGA of America officials.

According to CNN, a police report said: “The suspect refused to comply with the command, accelerated, and pulled Detective Gillis to the ground with him.”

Mayor Craig Greenberg and Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel held a press conference with the Louisville Metro Police Department on Thursday, May 23, telling reporters that Gillis violated department standard procedures when he failed to turn on his body-worn camera.

According to a memorandum the department released after the press conference, Gillis filled out a opt-out form explaining why he “failed to record” and what “would have been recorded” if his body-worn camera had been activated.

“I was asked to respond to a fatal accident on Shelbyville Road before my PGA reporting deadline. When I arrived, I immediately began directing traffic in front of Gate 1 and never turned on my BWC,” Gillis wrote on the form.

The detective described what the body-worn camera recorded: “While directing traffic outside Gate 1, PGA personnel stopped a bus attempting to enter Gate 1. I noticed a vehicle traveling in the opposite lane and coming toward me. I stopped the driver and informed him that he could not proceed because of the bus. He demanded to be let in and proceeded against my instructions. I was dragged/knocked down by the driver. I then arrested the driver.”
