Stay alert tonight as a precaution: The Alabama Weather Blog

NWS Birmingham and SPC are concerned that storms could produce damaging winds, hail, and even a tornado in central Alabama between 2 and 8 tonight. There is a conditional probability that strong updrafts that develop could produce any type of severe weather including a tornado. However, the HRRR model does not show strong updrafts.

Here are the tornado probabilities until 7 a.m.

Red indicates a 15 percent chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a point in the observation area, yellow indicates a 10 percent chance, olive green indicates a 5 percent chance, and light green indicates a 2 percent chance.

The shaded area includes a 10% or greater risk of EF2-EF5 tornadoes within 25 miles.

Check the weather tonight. Scott Martin will be monitoring the weather and posting overnight. We’ll post around 10pm before bedtime. Keep your weather alert sources turned on and handy overnight.
