Man attacked for protesting against night cricket match | News from Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A 35-year-old man from Sanand village in Ahmedabad district on Saturday filed a complaint against three men who attacked him with a machete on his head. The attack took place nearly ten days after the complainant objected to relatives of the accused playing cricket late at night. Naresh Patel, a farmer from Hirapur village in Sanand taluka of Ahmedabad district, stated in his FIR registered with Sanand GIDC police that some boys, including the son of Karasan Devipujak of the same village, were playing cricket at a ground in the village around 10 pm. Patel asked them not to play cricket at that time of night and return home. Following this, the boys returned home, Patel said. In his complaint, Patel stated that on the night of May 23, three relatives of one of the boys, who was playing cricket that evening, came to him with a machete and asked him why he had stopped the boys from playing cricket. Patel tried to convince them that he had stopped to protect the boys. This angered the trio and Navghan Devipujak, Shravan Devipujak and Rasik Devipujak started beating Naresh Patel. Two of them held him down and another hit him on the head with a machete, causing serious injuries, Patel stated in his FIR. Other villagers rescued him and he was taken to a hospital. Later on Saturday, Sanand GIDC police registered a case of grievous bodily harm, criminal intimidation and abetment against Navghan, Shravan and Rasik.
