1 dead in third fatal shooting in Napier area this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was shot and killed near the Napier subdivision Sunday afternoon, the third homicide in the Nashville neighborhood in the last four days.

At around 2:15 p.m., Metro Nashville Police responded to a shooting near the Sudekum public housing development at the corner of Winfrey and Lewis Streets. When they arrived, they found a man lying shot in the street.

The unidentified man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made. Some bullets struck homes in the area.

Sunday’s shooting came after a shooting Saturday afternoon in which a man was shot for what police described as self-defense.

On Thursday, a man was shot dead on Fain Street in the Napier district.

Two men were allegedly arguing in a car when the situation escalated and one of the men pulled out his gun. When he pulled out his gun, a shot went off, hitting the other man in the chest, police said.

According to police, the victim got out of the car and ran into a neighboring garden, where he later died.

The suspected shooter, identified as 30-year-old Timothy Gibbons Jr., was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He is accused of shooting family friend Alan Howard.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
