First Warning Weather: Yellow Warning remains in effect for Memorial Day

ROCHESTER, NY — A strong low pressure system will move through the central Great Lakes and this will have a significant impact on Western New York over the next 24 hours. News10NBC First Alert meteorologists continue to track several lines of thunderstorms approaching the Rochester area. We don’t expect it to rain all day, but unfortunately it will likely impact Memorial Day parades, outdoor gatherings and memorial services. Some stronger storms may bring torrential rain, lightning and potentially strong, destructive winds. All storms could also cause localized flooding. Latest data shows the morning’s widespread rain and storms may become less frequent by the afternoon. Much of this stormy weather should dissipate by Monday evening.

Dry weather is expected Sunday evening, with a few showers or thunderstorms possible after midnight. The greatest chance of rain tonight will be west of Rochester. The low will be just under 15 degrees. There will be occasional showers and thunderstorms on Memorial Day. Strong to severe storms are possible at any time of day, but even these storms may become more frequent and scattered in the afternoon. The high will be just under 25 degrees. Tuesday will be partly sunny with the chance of showers or thunderstorms. Gusty winds will blow, with temperatures around 21 degrees. Wednesday will be windy and much cooler, with temperatures between just under 15 and 18 degrees. It will be mostly cloudy, with another shower possible midweek.

Beyond Wednesday, a longer period of dry, sunny weather is expected, which could last until next weekend.
