Court sentences teacher to life imprisonment for raping seven-year-old girl in Ogun

Ojo Ezekiel, 47, a secondary school teacher, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a 7-year-old girl in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Justice Abiodun Akinyemi of the Ogun State High Court delivered the judgment on Monday, almost two years after the convict was first brought to trial on July 1, 2022.

Prosecutor Olusegun Olaitan had previously told the court during the trial that the victim’s mother had questioned her daughter in detail after she discovered some abnormalities on her genitals while she was bathing.

The initially hesitant minor later confessed to her mother that she had been sexually abused by Mr. Ezekiel, a teacher at a secondary school near the victim’s elementary school.

The prosecution also presented a number of medical findings as evidence to prove that the victim had indeed been attacked and that the convicted man had abused her four times in his car after school.

During the trial, he also told the court that Mr. Ezekiel had threatened to beat her if she told anyone about the incident.

The judge found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
