One dead, others injured after boating accident south of Beaumont. | Local news

Our news partner KFDM in Beaumont reports that one person was killed and at least two others injured in a boating accident south of Beaumont on Friday.

Capt. Ryan Hall of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said Lewis Newsom, 48, of Groves, was driving the boat just before sunset when it struck the bridge on Boondocks Road on the North Fork of Taylor Bayou. In addition to the driver, there were five passengers in the boat. One female passenger suffered fatal injuries.

Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson of the 4th District said three people were taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Emergency responders performed CPR on one person. A fourth person was uninjured but was transported in the ambulance with one of the injured.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
