Brewers first base coach triggers strange incident during clearance maneuver

Quintin Berry is angry

Milwaukee Brewers first base coach Quintin Berry bizarrely sparked a bench-clearing incident during Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

The incident occurred in the middle of the seventh inning after Christian Yelich made a groundout to the first baseman. After the play, Berry apparently said something offensive to Red Sox pitcher Chris Martin, who was covering the baseman on the play. Martin reacted angrily and the benches cleared.

No punches were thrown and the whole affair generally ended with the guys loitering, but Berry was obviously angry and had to be restrained by other members of the Brewers. Despite this, he was not ejected.

A video of the NESN broadcast showed that Martin was not happy about it either, although not quite as upset as Berry.

Berry, who usually draws attention with his flashy shoes, actually played for the Red Sox’s 2013 World Series-winning team, although he is not on the current roster. That certainly doesn’t paint a good picture for him, as one generally doesn’t want the first base coach causing unnecessary drama, which seems to be the case here.
