Porsche crash in Pune: A teenager’s mother asked the driver to take the blame for the accident. Shocking details come to light. Everything you need to know

Commissioner Kumar told The Times of India, “We have recorded the statement of the driver. He mentioned that the construction worker (boy’s father) called him on Sunday at around 2.45 am (after the accident). The construction worker asked him to claim that he was behind the wheel of the car when the accident occurred. The construction worker’s wife also emotionally requested him to take responsibility for the accident. The family members offered him various incentives to do so.”

Following a complaint from Gangadhar, Pune Police filed charges against Vishal and Surendra under sections 365 and 368 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for kidnapping, threatening and keeping the driver captive at the family’s residence in Wadgaonsheri on the night of the incident.

In court, police said Gangadhar’s clothes had been recovered from the Agarwals’ house and demanded the detention of the BMW allegedly used in the kidnapping. The teenager’s grandfather was remanded in police custody till May 28.

His lawyer argued that Surendra was with his wife in Delhi on the night of the incident. Police cited the grandfather’s criminal past, which includes cases of infidelity, attempted murder and criminal threats, to justify his custody.

Vishal Agarwal was arrested on Tuesday and is currently in jail in connection with another case related to the accident. He is also mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR).

The minor is in a government observatory in Yerawada after the juvenile court rejected his bail plea on Wednesday.

What happened on May 19th?

On May 19, a Porsche, allegedly driven by the drunk teenager, collided with two software engineers on a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar. The collision resulted in the death of Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24 years old.

The juvenile driver, who was driving at high speed after consuming a lot of alcohol, was remanded to an observation home until June 5 while the juvenile court considers the police’s request to try him as an adult. The juvenile’s father, a well-known real estate agent, was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Two engineers – Ashwini Kostha and Anish Awadhiya – were on the motorcycle when the Porsche rammed their bike from behind. They died at the scene. The boy was released on bail within 15 hours of the accident, under conditions that seemed less than convincing. He was asked to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, work with traffic police officers for 15 days and undergo therapy for his alcohol addiction.

Amid nationwide outrage, the juvenile court later changed the order and sent him to an observation home.

Commissioner Kumar said, “After the accident, the minor, his friends and the driver were taken to the police station. Initially, the driver claimed that he was behind the wheel. However, the police did not believe him and filed a complaint against the minor.”

Police said that after recording his statement, Vishal and his family followed Gangadhar home. “They forced him into their car and drove him to their bungalow in Wadgaonsheri. He was locked in a room, his phone was confiscated and no one was allowed to meet him.”

The next day, the driver’s wife went to the builder’s bungalow to look for her husband but was not allowed to meet him. The builder’s family made her many promises and asked her to convince her husband to take the blame,” Kumar said.

Kumar added, “Later the same day, the driver was allowed to go home with a warning. After that, he went into hiding for two days and resurfaced on Thursday. When we took him to the CID for questioning on Thursday, more details about the case came to light.

Given the criminal past of the boy’s grandfather, we have provided the driver with 24-hour protection under the Witness Protection Act. The Criminal Investigation Department has been instructed to investigate all three cases: the accident, the case against the minor’s father and this new case of kidnapping and captivity.”
