Red Bull reveals huge cost of Perez’s Monaco accident

Sergio Perez’s accident at the Monaco Grand Prix and the destroyed Red Bull will cost the team up to three million dollars, estimates Dr. Helmut Marko.

Perez started from 16th place after being eliminated in Q1, but was able to move up from 18th place after Haas duo Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg were disqualified due to a technical defect on the rear wing.

On the climb on lap 1, Magnussen tried to get alongside Perez, but he and the Mexican collided at high speed with the barrier, ripping the suspension from its mounts and destroying the car.

A long red flag followed to repair the barrier, with Perez sharply criticising Magnussen’s approach as race control refused to investigate the matter further, with Marko claiming Red Bull would face a multi-million dollar fine.

“That will cost us about two to three million and with the budget cap that is of course a big handicap,” he said Sky Germany.

“It was another accident involving Magnussen. Thank God it ended well, but it was a critical situation. I was surprised, however, at how quickly the race control dealt with the matter.

“These are decisions that you can hardly influence, but it was simply dangerous.”
