Auburn police investigate fatal motorcycle-car crash

AUBURN – Authorities are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at 5:32 p.m. on May 24 involving a motorcycle and a car on South Main Street at the intersection with Witham Road.

According to Auburn Police and Fire Department, a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle driven by a 15-year-old girl with a learner’s permit and supervised by her mother collided with a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 40-year-old Jessica Carter of Lewiston.

Although Carter was wearing a helmet, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after witnesses performed CPR.

The teen driver reportedly had trouble operating the manual transmission of her Beetle as she turned from Witham Road onto South Main Street. The motorcycle then had to swerve to avoid a collision, but ultimately struck the driver’s side of the car.

The occupants of the Beetle were not seriously injured in the accident.

The intersection was closed for several hours to reconstruct the accident.

Auburn Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

No further details were released as the investigation is ongoing.
