Weather in Louisville Tuesday, Wednesday: Severe storms, tornadoes possible

There is an increased risk of severe weather in the Louisville area and much of the surrounding region on Tuesday. A tornado warning has already been issued for the far northern portions of the WLKY viewing area until 9 p.m. INTERACTIVE RADAR| ACTIVE WEATHER WARNINGS It is possible that additional weather warnings may be issued later Tuesday to include other parts of the observation area. A cold front now northwest of us will move further in our direction. As it gets closer there could be more activity. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to form throughout the afternoon and early evening. Isolated thunderstorms are expected from around 4 p.m. to around 8 p.m. All could have serious potential. Storms should continue to strengthen and move east and southeast across the observation area during the evening hours, likely reaching the Louisville metropolitan area by the end of the day in the evening into the early morning hours. From around 8 p.m. we expect the storms to become more numerous. Any of these storms can produce strong winds, hail or tornadoes. Most of the area is below severe weather level 3 out of 5 on Tuesday, posing an increased risk. After a brief lull in storm activity late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, another round of severe storms is possible Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. Eyes are currently in the 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. range. A cold front will eliminate the chance of rain and storms Thursday morning, with cooler 60s for highs through Friday.

The storms are expected to continue to increase in reach, moving east and southeast across the observation area during the evening hours and likely reaching the Louisville metropolitan area by late evening and early overnight hours.

From around 8 p.m. we expect the storms to become more numerous.

Any of these storms can produce strong winds, hail or tornadoes. Most of the area is below severe weather level 3 out of 5 on Tuesday, posing an increased risk.
