Bulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh) (India), November 18 (ANI): A rape victim, who allegedly attempted self-immolation in Jahangirabad, Uttar Pradesh, after being pressured by the accused’s family to withdraw her complaint, died in a Delhi hospital on Wednesday.

“We have collected all the evidence from the crime scene. Five of the seven accused have been arrested. Efforts are on to nab the other accused,” said Santosh K Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

A local court has remanded the five accused in 14-day custody after they were arrested early this morning.

The woman had attempted to set herself on fire here on Tuesday after allegedly being pressured to withdraw her complaint against a man who had been arrested for alleged rape.

Speaking to reporters, SSP Bulandshahr had said, “The victim tried to immolate herself as a family member of the accused was pressurising her to compromise in the case.”

The SSP said, “The Jahangirabad police station received information about a rape incident in August. The accused was arrested and sent to jail. The accused lives in a different village from the victim.” (ANI)
