Marshfield man arrested after standoff with police shortly before high school graduation

Marshfield man charged with carrying firearm on school property

Marshfield, Wisconsin (WBJ) Marshfield Police arrested a 66-year-old Marathon County man Saturday afternoon after a situation occurred near the intersection of Edison Street and Hinman Avenue.

Officers were initially dispatched at 12:21 p.m. to a man exhibiting signs of mental health issues. When they arrived, the man, who authorities knew from a recent stalking case, was fleeing on foot through backyards. Officers reported seeing what appeared to be a firearm on the man’s hip.

The suspect, who lives outside of Marshfield city limits, was known to have a restraining order barring him from entering a nearby residence. When additional Marshfield and Wood County police officers arrived at the scene, the man was observed attempting to enter the victim’s home.

The officers ordered the man to surrender, but he fled again on foot. After a short chase, the man was arrested without further incident. A loaded .22 caliber revolver was confiscated from him.

The suspect was transported to the Wood County Jail after a medical evaluation at Marshfield Medical Center. The Wood County District Attorney’s Office is asked to file charges of stalking with a dangerous weapon, concealed carrying of a weapon, carrying a firearm on school property and resisting an officer.
