Weather of the first warning:

  • A tornado warning is in effect until 10 a.m.
  • Sunday is a First Alert weather day with two possible rounds of severe storms
  • Destructive wind and flash floods are the main threats of the first round
  • Destructive winds, heavy hail, tornadoes and flash floods are possible in the second round

Sunday is a First Alert Weather Day. A tornado warning is in effect for areas south of St. Louis.

7-day forecast

Sunday morning: The first wave of thunderstorms will arrive in the morning and impact our region between about 4 and 11 a.m., with the St. Louis metropolitan area most likely to experience them between 5 and 9 a.m. The main threat from this wave is damaging winds and flooding, but there is also a risk of brief tornadoes, especially in areas south of St. Louis.

Sunday afternoon-evening: After a lull in stormy weather from midday through the afternoon, a second round of strong to severe storms is possible from about 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the focus on the St. Louis metropolitan area from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gaps in cloud cover during the midday and afternoon break will help replenish the storm after the morning rain. Round two could bring strong winds (over 70 mph), large hail, tornadoes, and localized flooding. There are still some unanswered questions about where these storms will move and how intense they will be, but even if you don’t get hit with a strong or severe storm, thunderstorms are likely tomorrow afternoon!

Monday (Remembrance Day) looks dry and partly cloudy, with decreasing humidity – a welcome break after an active Sunday. The calm weather is likely to continue for most of the next work week.
