Severe storm risk later today

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Today is a FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY due to the possibility of severe weather in the second half of Sunday.

It appears there are two waves of storms, both of which could bring the possibility of isolated strong to severe storms. The first line is expected to arrive in 21Country between 2 and 6 p.m. This wave of storms brings the greatest probability of severe weather. The time frame it moves in is more ideal for stronger storms, as temperatures and dew points are highest in the late afternoon (around 4-5pm). Temperatures actually rise to just over 27 degrees, with dew points of 15 degrees for most of the day, so storms have more “power” to work with.

The second round of storms will begin late this evening and could last into Monday morning, with the timing expected to be between midnight Monday and about 5 a.m. With the second wave of storms, the risk of severe weather is likely to be lower, but it cannot be ruled out.

The main danger from both storm lines is destructive winds, but there is also a significant chance of tornadoes and large hail.

There is a slight chance of isolated showers or drizzle on Memorial Day, but most of the day will be dry. Temperatures will be a bit more refreshing, reaching highs of just above 70 degrees.

There is a chance of isolated persistent showers on Tuesday, but the rest of the work week will bring cooler temperatures and dry weather.
