Bills-Steelers wild-card game will no longer be delayed as snowstorm hits Buffalo

It’s a good thing there wasn’t a football game Sunday at Highmark Stadium. Conditions in Buffalo seemed absolutely miserable.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Saturday that the Buffalo Bills’ playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was postponed until 4:30 p.m. ET on Monday due to a massive snowstorm plaguing the area. Erie County has also issued a total travel ban, and it’s easy to see why. At 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, when the game was originally scheduled to begin, it was almost impossible to see anything inside the stadium — which was already filled with snow.

It was barely better than the scene at the stadium Saturday night.

The Buffalo area was under a winter storm warning this weekend, with forecasts calling for strong lake effect and blowing snow of up to 10 to 20 inches in some areas. The wind was also blowing more than 20 mph Sunday afternoon, making the storm much worse.

Although it was around 4 degrees in the area Sunday afternoon, which is much warmer than in Kansas City for the Chiefs’ win against the Miami Dolphins Saturday night, conditions were much worse.

This is why, Hochul repeated on Sunday, the match was postponed to Monday.

“I’m not saying it will be pleasant (Monday), but it won’t be life-threatening either,” Hochul said Sunday afternoon. via Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sportsadding that the game will no longer be delayed.

The Bills will still have to shovel a lot of snow out of the stadium — they were paying volunteers to help earlier in the week — but Monday afternoon’s game is on.

If the Bills win on Monday, they will host the Chiefs next week. That would send the Houston Texans, who beat the Cleveland Browns in their wild-card game, to Baltimore to face the top-seeded Ravens. If the Steelers beat the Bills, they would go to Baltimore next week and the Texans would head to Kansas City.
