WEATHER HEADLINES

  • WARNING DAY: Two storm surges on Sunday, severe weather likely

LATEST FORECAST

Here’s WAVE News meteorologist Ryan Hoke with his forecast.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – With the chance of rain behind us, we’re in for a calm and dry night. This combination will lead to scattered fog through Sunday morning. Lows will be in the 15 to 20 degrees range overnight.

Sunday is a WAVE WEATHER WARNING DAY with two waves of storms. The first will be a line of storms overhead between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm ET. This line, while somewhat weak on approach, may strengthen over us and produce damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

The quiet period between two waves of storms will likely occur Sunday evening between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET.

Then, after 8 p.m. and until 2 a.m., we’ll be dealing with the most intense storm wave on record, with potentially widespread damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Once the storm passes by sunrise Monday morning, expect only a few lingering showers early in the day.

On the afternoon of Memorial Day, we can expect isolated, sudden thunderstorms with small hail as the system slowly dissipates.

After Memorial Day, much calmer weather is expected as a high pressure system slowly approaches from the west mid-week. Highs will remain below 70 degrees this week while there will still be plenty of sunshine. Storm chances will only increase late next weekend.
