News from Delhi: 3 dead as fire breaks out in Shahdara, 2nd incident in a day

Three people were killed and three others injured when a fire broke out in a building in Delhi’s Krishna Nagar at around 2 am on Sunday, May 26. Seven people were safely rescued by the DFS unit.

This is the second fire accident in Delhi since Saturday night. Yesterday, a massive fire broke out in a children’s hospital in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar, killing seven newborns and injuring five other children.

The official said at least 12 newborns were rescued from the fire, seven of them died and the remaining five children were hospitalized for treatment.

At 11:32 p.m., the fire department received an emergency call. Nine fire engines immediately rushed to the scene of the fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“An emergency call was received from the Baby Care Centre near ITI, Block B in Vivek Vihar area. A total of nine fire engines were dispatched,” said Atul Garg, chief of Delhi Fire Services (DFS).

Fire accident in Rajkot

At least 27 people were killed in the city of Rajkot in the state of Gujarat when a huge fire raged in a busy play area and the building collapsed. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered an SIT investigation into the incident.

“It is very important to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. Negligence will not be tolerated in this case,” Patel said.

Rajkot police commissioner Raju Bhargava said that the gaming area belongs to a man named Yuvraj Singh Solanki. He has been taken to the police station for questioning.

“A fire broke out in the TRP gaming area in the afternoon. Rescue operations are on. The fire is under control. We are trying to recover as many bodies as possible. Investigations are on,” ANI reported, quoting Bhargava.

“We will file a criminal complaint for negligence and the deaths that occurred. Further investigations will take place once we have completed the rescue operations here,” he added.
