Motorcyclist killed in accident in Chesapeake Bay

The accident occurred around 5:17 p.m. at the intersection of Hanbury Road and Benson Lane, near the ramps to the Route 168 Expressway.

CHESAPEAKE, Virginia – A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Chesapeake Saturday afternoon, the Chesapeake Police Department (CPD) said.

According to CPD, the accident occurred around 5:17 p.m. at the intersection of Hanbury Road and Benson Lane, near the ramps to the Route 168 Expressway.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Hanbury Road and approaching the intersection when a westbound pickup truck turned in front of the motorcycle and entered a shopping center on Benson Lane. The motorcycle then struck the side of the pickup truck, causing the death of the motorcyclist.

It is not yet known if charges will be filed, but authorities said the Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident. The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been released.

The roads are open to traffic again.
