The city orders the business on Avenue Hertel to cease all activities

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The city of Buffalo is closing what authorities say is an “illegal speakeasy” in North Buffalo.

The business, located at 1783 Hertel Avenue, received notice today to cease all operations from the Department of Licensing and Inspection Services.

According to a city spokesperson, the business was operating without a permit. Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities said a large crowd gathered outside the building.

Buffalo Police issued the following orders to the 44-year-old homeowner:

  • Drinking and possessing alcohol in public places
  • Employing an unregistered bouncer
