Nicki Minaj arrested in Amsterdam – video of her arrest by police goes viral

Nicki Minaj was arrested by police at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Saturday, a source at the Dutch National Police confirmed to ABC News.

A statement from the Dutch military police said a 41-year-old woman was arrested for attempting to leave the country while “in possession of soft drugs, which is prohibited.”

The 12-time Grammy nominee had previously posted a video on Instagram Live in which she speaks to an Amsterdam police officer about the arrest. When she asked why she was arrested, the officer explained that she was arrested “for carrying drugs.”

Minaj used X to inform her followers about the dramatic events. “Now they said they found weed & that another group of people have to come here to weigh the pre-rolled joints. Remember that they took my bags without my consent. My security has already informed them that these pre-rolled joints belong to him. Oh yeah & the pilot wants me to delete my IG post,” she wrote in one post.

The hashtag #FREENICKI is currently trending on X.

Minaj was fined and later released, Dutch police said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“We have just released a 41-year-old American woman whom we arrested this afternoon at Schiphol Airport on suspicion of exporting soft drugs. After consultation with the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was fined and can continue her journey,” police said in a statement.

Minaj was scheduled to perform in Manchester, England on Saturday night.

The organizer Live Nation announced that the performance would be postponed and that the tickets would still be valid.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible option to make tonight’s show possible, today’s events have made that impossible,” the promoter said in a statement. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

ABC News has contacted Minaj’s representative for comment.
