Austin Hill on the Cole Custer incident: “He lost his mind”

Things got tough on the track between Austin Hill and Cole Custer in Charlotte. Custer was eliminated from the race due to an accident. Hill, on the other hand, finished 25th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series BETMGM 300.

For some reason, Austin Hill was a hothead on the track today. He got into a fight with Sammy Smith and then made a frankly embarrassing move at the end of the race. Cole Custer and Hill made contact and Hill felt the need to get revenge.

After the race, Hill spoke about his side of things. He felt wronged by Custer because of the contact on the backstretch. Hill also said that his right front wheel went into Custer and the wall because of the traction. That part was not intentional, he claims.

“Well, if you just watch the replay, the replay isn’t the best,” Hill said of Dustin Albino. “They did a really good job showing everything that happened, not really. But yeah, I just came off of fourth, everybody had old tires, scratches as we came in and went into the pits, and I kind of spun out trying to get away from him. I mean, his right rear tire may have barely grazed the wall, didn’t do any damage to his car.

“Then he completely lost control on the straight. He hit me so hard that the right front buckled. But when I went into one, I didn’t really know that the right front had already buckled, and I went into one really deep because I wanted to collide with him and the right front buckled and I couldn’t turn, right? So I went into him and then on the back straight I probably pulled away a bit too much, I didn’t let go of him.

“I apologize for that part. But I don’t apologize for hitting him out of four. I don’t know what he’s upset about. It’s not like he hit the wall really hard or ruined his car in any way. So, I guess he needs to go back and look at it because I don’t understand it. It was very inappropriate to attack us that hard on the backstretch and then we crashed on the front right and we both went out. But it is what it is. I never had a problem with Cole, so I don’t know if he ever had a problem with me. That was definitely weird. I’m sure we’ll talk about it, but yeah, Cole and I have always ridden really well together, so I’m not sure what he’s so upset about.”

Cole Custer was not happy after the race. Austin Hill and Custer collided on the track and only one of them finished the race. It was Hill. The incident on the track was not popular with NASCAR fans on the internet.

Many fans felt Hill went too far. And he did. Drivers have no excuse for what he did to Custer after the first crash. Let’s take Hill’s side and say the crash in the wall was due to the tire. Everything that happened after the crash is inexcusable.

So what’s going to happen? I don’t think anything’s going to happen. NASCAR didn’t seem to have a problem with it and everything went on as normal. It will be interesting to see if this turns into a bigger problem between Hill and Custer.
