Jeremy Renner provides further details on near-fatal accident on Mt. Rose Highway

RENO, Nevada (KOLO) – Actor Jeremy Renner this week detailed the January 1, 2023 snow removal equipment incident off Mount Rose Highway.

Renner appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday to promote the third season of his show “Mayor of Kingstown.”

He was using a snowcat to pull a truck stuck in the snow down his driveway when it began to slide toward his nephew. Renner tried to stop it.

MORE DETAILS ON THE RACER CRASH

“I jumped back on it, or at least tried to, and got caught in the tracks and broke 38 bones. It was brutal,” Renner told Fallon.

Renner tapped one of his legs. “That’s metal. Half of my face is metal. The whole right side of my back is metal,” he said. He broke 14 ribs.

He noticed that one of his eyes had popped out of its socket.

“It’s like, ‘Well, I guess this is real. But I’ll worry about that later.’ And then I looked at my legs. They were all twisted.” He had to worry about that later, too. Instead, he concentrated on breathing. He didn’t know that his lung had collapsed and that if he didn’t concentrate on breathing out, he would die.

Renner, 53, said being pushed to his physical, mental and emotional limits has been a great gift for him.

“I will never have a bad day for the rest of my life. That’s impossible,” Renner said.

Renner was on a ventilator at Renown Regional Medical Center. When he woke up, people came to visit him. It seemed like they were coming to say goodbye, like it was a wake.

“I didn’t know why you were freaking out like that. I didn’t know I had been on life support for the last three or four days,” Renner said.

Renner said he was terrible at accepting all the love that was shown to him, but that love helped him recover.

While Renner was in intensive care, Fallon texted him: “Dude, you’re trending.”

“I thought we lost you,” Fallon said.

“For a second,” Renner replied. “But I got some insulation tape and stuck everything back together. Everything’s OK.”

He eventually returned to acting, but struggled with the typical 14-hour days and instead worked six to eight hours.

Fallon asked if Renner could do stunts now. Renner brought a clip from “Mayor of Kingston” on Paramount+ in which Renner’s character beats up two bad guys. The audience cheered.
