First Warning Weather: Yellow Warning remains in effect for Memorial Day

The threat of severe weather for Saturday has passed as a cold front will move across Western New York Saturday night. This will bring some drier air and bring sunshine and pleasant temperatures back on Sunday. However, the next low pressure system will be racing in from the west and this will bring our next round of showers and thunderstorms. For this reason, meteorologists at News10NBC First Alert have issued a yellow warning for Memorial Day as strong to severe thunderstorms are likely through Monday afternoon.

Saturday night, expect persistent rain showers east of the Genesee Valley to end by early evening. A few breaks in the clouds are expected, and scattered fog may develop overnight. Lows will be around 10 degrees. Sunday will be the best day of the holiday weekend. There could be scattered fog and low clouds early in the morning; otherwise, expect plenty of sunshine and highs around 25 degrees.

Memorial Day is expected to start dry with some sunshine. Showers and thunderstorms will develop around midday, and storms are likely to continue throughout the rest of the afternoon. Watch for frequent lightning, torrential rain, strong winds and small hail. Highs on Monday will be in the 25s.

Showers and significantly cooler weather are expected for the middle of the week.
