Ladson sex offender arrested in multi-agency investigation

LADSON, SC (WCBD) – A 55-year-old Ladson man who authorities say is a registered sex offender is facing multiple charges following a multi-agency investigation related to child sexual abuse material.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) detectives and members of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAS) Task Force executed a search warrant at a home on Craven Road last month while investigating the mailing and receiving of child abuse materials.

Charles Anthony Garris was arrested and charged with eight counts of second-degree minor sexual exploitation and one count of violating the sex offender registry.

Investigators on the ICAC task force included Homeland Security, US Marshal Service, US Secret Service, FBI, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, State Law Enforcement Division and investigators from Nassau County, Florida.

Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said Garris is currently on the Berkeley County Sex Offender Registry. His bail was set at $402,100.

As the investigation continues, various authorities expect further criminal charges.
