At least 20 people killed in horrific fire at amusement park in West Indies

A major fire broke out in an amusement park in western India on Saturday, killing at least 22 people, according to police.

The fire occurred in the park in the city of Rajkot in the state of Gujarat.

Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava said the fire was now under control and 22 bodies had already been recovered. A rescue operation was underway.

The bodies were difficult to identify because they were so badly charred, said police officer Vinayak Patel.

Police Commissioner Bhargava said police were working to determine the cause of the fire.

“We will file a criminal complaint for negligence and the deaths that occurred. Further investigations will be carried out once we have completed the rescue operation,” he said.

The amusement park was privately owned by Yuvraj Singh Solanki.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X that he was “extremely shocked by the fire… in Rajkot. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured.”
