Drunk wrong-way driver arrested in Tolland

TOLLAND, Conn. (WTNH) – An impaired man was arrested early this morning after driving on the wrong side of I-84 in Tolland, state police said.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., State Police Troop C received multiple calls about a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84 with its hazard lights on.

Police officers on site observed a silver Honda Crosstour in the area of ​​exits 67 and 68 that matched the description of the wrong-way driver.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Gilberto Rivera of Hartford, had parked his car on the westbound access ramp of the rest area.

During the traffic stop, officers noticed that Rivera was showing signs of impairment and administered standardized sobriety tests, which Rivera failed.

Rivera was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, driving the wrong way on a highway, and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Rivera was later released on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 10.
