“Police investigation” closes Garrett Road

A portion of Garrett Street was closed for a “police investigation,” Greensboro officials say

THE DAVIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE TWO CARS RELATED TO THE SHOOTING IN WHICH A MAN DIED AND A GIRL WAS INJURED. THIS ALL HAPPENED AT TRUIST SOCCER PARK, WHICH IS LESS THAN A MILE FROM WHERE I STAND NOW. WE WANT TO SHOW YOU IT AGAIN. VIDEO OF THIS SCENE. This is a video from the scene sent in by a viewer last night. A very strong police presence. As you can see, according to the DAVIE County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at TRUIST Soccer Park. Two cars were leaving the park toward Forsyth County when the suspect’s car, a red Dodge Charger, began shooting at the victim’s car. A WHITE DODGE CHARGER, PART OF HIGHWAY 158 FROM HARPER ROAD TO THE DAVIE COUNTY LINE, WAS CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOURS WHILE INVESTIGATORS COLLECTED EVIDENCE. THE SUSPECT’S CAR HAS NOT YET BEEN FOUND AND THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE WHITE CHARGER HAD TWO MEN, A WOMAN AND A GIRL WHO INVESTIGATIVES DESCRIBE AS A TEENAGER. AND THE RED DODGE CHARGER had a window on the driver’s side that was covered with what looked like a trash bag. HYDE AND THE DAVIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAY WE WILL RECEIVE ANOTHER UPDATE SHORTLY. JUST A FEW HOURS AGO a car left the road and ended up in a woman’s home. Our Joshua Davis spoke with the victim’s family and a neighbor who took action. A woman who lives here told me she was in her living room cleaning when she said she heard a noise that sounded like thunder. A few minutes later, one of her neighbors pulled her to safety. SHORTLY AFTER 11 MONDAY MORNING. Witnesses say that at the intersection of BETHANIA Rural Hall Road and Tobaccoville Road there was a crash directly into this apartment. Photos show the extent of this accident. Witnesses captured these images showing the car stored inside the home and first responders’ efforts to get it out. BLITHER. A neighbor told me he was outside with his dogs when he heard a loud bang. So I come out the front door. I only see rubble everywhere. And as I approach the door, all I can hear is the lady screaming for help. So I took off and ran. She was forced inside. ALL THOSE BRICKS AND SHOW ARE RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR. So I pushed all those rocks aside and got her out and made her sit right there, calm her down and call 911. Luckily the woman who lives here is doing well. BLYTHER SAYS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. It was a blessing that this was all they considered an apartment. This lady could have lost her life. THE WOMAN RESCUED FROM THIS HOUSE TELLS ME IT WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND SHE’S STILL A LITTLE TOO EXHAUSTED TO TALK. And the highway police tell us that the driver was injured in a hospital there. At this hour, investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical accident while driving, causing him to drive off the road and into the apartment. TOMMY, as he was known to friends and family, was someone you couldn’t dislike and he was a bit of a joker. He was a history buff, loved hockey and once played on a law enforcement team in Canada. He loved serving the community and was a 13-year veteran of the US Marshal Service and part of the CAROLINAS REGIONAL FUGITIVE. TASK GROUP. He flew through the weeks at night, devoting his life to service and making the ultimate sacrifice. A WEEK AGO AS WE REMEMBER TOMMY WEEKS TODAY AND IN THE DAYS AND YEARS TO COME, MAY. THE LATEST FALLEN HERO IS FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY AUSTIN RIDLEHUBER. HIS FRIENDS CALL HIM RUDY RIDLEHUBER. He died when a box truck hit his patrol car on September 9 last year. FRIENDS. AND EMPLOYEES REMEMBERED DEPUTY RIDLEHUBER AS A GREAT GUY WHO LOVED HIS FAMILY AND SPENT TIME ON THE FARM. GINGER, AMOS’ SON, HAS FALLEN. WINSTON SALEM POLICEMAN STEVEN AMOS. She says it’s important that we never forget the sacrifices these officers made to keep us safe. It’s just very, very serious.
