Police charge woman with 16 crimes in connection with Walmart incident on Conley Road

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

Columbia police identified the woman officers arrested Friday after shots were fired in the parking lot of the Walmart on Conley Road.

According to a news release Saturday, officers arrested Whitney Nevels-McKee, 35, of Columbia.

Police said they arrested Nevels-McKee on suspicion of several felony counts, including second-degree kidnapping, three counts of auto theft, two counts of second-degree assault, three counts of fourth-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, theft of a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, felony possession of a weapon, armed criminal action and theft as a petty misdemeanor.

Online court records show prosecutors have not yet filed charges. Online jail records show she was booked into the Boone County Jail just before 11:40 p.m. Friday.

A Columbia Police spokesman told ABC 17 News on the scene that two people were initially arrested, but one man was released after questioning.

Police responded to shots fired inside the store around 5:20 p.m. According to police, there were two victims of the crime, but no one was injured.

A witness, Vincent Rogers, told ABC 17 News he observed a woman with a gun in the parking lot acting erratically. The woman attempted to steal a car and fired shots from the car, he said.

Another witness, Doug Tallon, said he took cover behind a fire truck after hearing gunshots.

Several agencies were on site. At least five patrol cars from the Columbia Police Department, fire trucks from Boone County and Columbia, and officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol were on site. The accident scene was cleared by 7 p.m.
