2. Tripura has issued a Cyclone Remal warning, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall associated with strong winds and a cyclonic storm that will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 26. Heavy rainfall is expected until May 28.

The IMD has also issued a very heavy rainfall warning for West Bengal, Odisha and the northeastern states. “The low pressure area over central-eastern Bay of Bengal was moving north-northeastwards at a speed of 15 kmph during the last six hours and intensified into a deep depression and was located about 380 km south-southeast of Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and 530 km south-southeast of Canning (West Bengal) at 5:30 am,” the IMD said.

4. The IMD has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind speeds of up to 40-50 kmph on May 26. In addition, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas in South Tripura, Gomati, Dhalai, Sepahijala and West Tripura districts. A yellow warning has been issued for the rest of Tripura for the same day.

5. Residents of West Bengal, coastal Bangladesh and Tripura have been advised to prepare for adverse weather conditions from May 26.
