Cyclone Remal: Kolkata airport suspends flight operations for 21 hours, Tripura issues warning | 10 points

Residents of West Bengal, coastal Bangladesh and Tripura have been advised to prepare for adverse weather conditions from May 26.

The IMD has also issued a very heavy rainfall warning for West Bengal, Odisha and the northeastern states.

Calcutta: A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a cyclone named Remal, which is expected to make landfall between the coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday with a speed of 110-120 kmph, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The Kolkata Airport Authority of India on Saturday said it had decided to suspend flight operations from 12 noon on May 26 to 9 am on May 27 as strong winds were forecast.

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) met on Friday to review preparations for the cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, an official press release said.
