Man dies in pile-up accident on US-220 in Franklin County

Virginia State Police report that a man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 220 near Burgess Road in Franklin County on Friday, May 24.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police report a man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 220 near Burgess Road in Franklin County on Friday, May 24.

According to VSP, a 2018 Ford F-150 driven by 48-year-old Christopher Jeffery Perry of Apex, North Carolina, was traveling north when his vehicle allegedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling south. The vehicle then collided with a 2023 Nissan Altima, also in the southbound lane.


VSP reports that Perry died at the scene of the accident. He was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the semi-trailer, who was also wearing a seat belt, was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries; the driver of the Nissan was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation. WFXR News will update this story as more information becomes available.
