Interview for police officer ends with confession of sexual assault

The recent guilty verdict by a jury in Orange County, Florida, was related to a shocking confession of a black man in 2021. However, his statement to the police was not made during an interrogation, but during an interview for the position of police officer.

On June 16, 2021, Stephen Bodley was with the Apopka Police Department applying for a position as a sworn police officer, according to the Office of the United States Attorney for the Ninth Judicial District. Things got tense when he had to take a vocal stress test. The vocal stress analysis examiner asked Bodley to explain an answer he had given on his pre-test questionnaire.

Specifically, the question was: “Have you ever sexually harassed someone?”

During this part of the test, he suddenly revealed that he had sexually abused a child when he was young. It is safe to assume that the interview ended after that.

In it, Bodley described sexually abusing a younger child when he was 12 to 13 years old and said the incidents took place in his home 10 years ago, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, which also claims he again admitted to the incidents when questioned further.

“I can’t remember, but um, but what do you call it, yeah, um, I used to play these little sex games, like oral sex with my little (redacted) and I knew her, she didn’t know exactly what was going on, and I used to watch a lot of porn, so I was kind of a little addict when I was younger,” Bodley told a detective at the time, according to the affidavit.

“He stated that he went to his room naked and she laughed and then put her mouth on it (meaning his penis),” the affidavit states. “Defendant Bodley stated that this gave him the idea to ‘play this game’ and that he would play the game with her ‘all the time.'”

According to the report, police found that he continued this behavior into his teenage years. After the discovery, investigators met with the victim and his mother, who said she had known Bodley since he was a child and never thought he would do something like this. Daily Mail. After her interviews, Bodley was called back to the department, not to get a job offer – but to be arrested.

On May 8, a jury convicted Bodley of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 by a person under the age of 18. He is due back in court in June for sentencing.
