Ambulance and police at an incident in Ryde town centre

An incident in Ryde town centre is being dealt with by emergency services this morning.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are on the scene in Cross Street, eyewitnesses told the County Press.

It is assumed that a pedestrian was hit by a car.

To update: A police spokesman said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision at the junction of Union Road and Cross Street at 11am today.

“Officers are currently on site and the roads are closed.”

The IW rescue service confirmed that an officer on duty and a paramedic are on site.

Southern Vectis buses are being diverted.

Services 4, 9 and 37 leave Ryde via Dover Street, Park Road, Monkton Street, St. John’s Hill and West Street and continue the normal route from the parish church.

Services 2, 3 and 8 leave Ryde via Dover Street, Park Road and continue their normal route from Monkton Street.

The road is closed from Melville Street and the intersection at George Street is impassable.
