Ahmedabad: Four students, including two women, of a local medical college have been expelled from classes for allegedly harassing younger students, an official said.

Located in Maninagar district, the college is run by AMC Medical Education Trust, an institution of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

Following an investigation, the university administration suspended four students from the Master’s program in Surgery, Dean Dr. Dipti Shah said on Friday.

While two students were suspended for two and one years respectively, the other two were suspended for 25 days, she said.

“Four freshmen students and their parents had approached us on May 21 with a complaint against these four seniors. We convened a meeting of the college council and heard all of them. After a thorough investigation, the council unanimously decided to suspend the four as we believe in zero tolerance towards hazing,” said Dr Shah.

The older students asked the younger students to perform tasks such as writing a prescription multiple times and also verbally abused them while doing so, the dean said.
