1 dead and 2 injured in fire in Brooklyn; FDNY investigates arson

BROOKLYN, NY (PIX11) — One man was killed and two people were injured in an intentional fire in a Brooklyn apartment Friday night, according to the NYPD.

The fire broke out at 317 Monroe Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 11:15 p.m., police said. A 70-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

A 65-year-old woman was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals Woodhull with smoke inhalation, police said.

A fire chief with the New York Fire Department believed the fire was “intentionally set.” Investigators have a suspect in police custody, authorities said.

The cause of death of the victim is being determined by the city coroner’s office.
