Showers and thunderstorms this weekend, with severe weather expected late Sunday

TONIGHT:

Today is a First Alert Weather Day.

Early morning showers and thunderstorms will ease as they move east. Clouds will break to reveal some sunshine. It will get hotter and stay humid with highs between 27 and 30 degrees.

A few sudden showers and thunderstorms will develop in the late afternoon and early evening. However, many areas will have a dry afternoon and evening, making for nice weather by the pool or lake. Remember: If you hear thunder, go indoors for 30 minutes before venturing outside again.

The night will be partly cloudy. However, towards sunrise on Sunday, isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible again.

SUNDAY – SEVERE STORMS LIKELY:

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected throughout the Middle East late Sunday afternoon and overnight from Sunday to Sunday.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky late Sunday afternoon and into Sunday night.(WSMV)

Sunday is a First Alert Weather Day.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible in some areas early Sunday.

A gusty southwest wind will develop during the morning. Gusts of 25 – 35 mph are possible from late morning into the afternoon. Unless you have experience with windy weather, reconsider your boating plans.

Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening, isolated strong to severe storms will develop northwest of Nashville and track southeastward. All severe threats are possible – hail, damaging wind gusts, isolated tornadoes and even localized flooding. This late-day group of storms could form as early as 2 p.m. over southwest Kentucky and in Nashville by 6 p.m. There are also indications that the storm formation will linger over southwest Kentucky into the evening and in Nashville until 9-10 p.m. Because of this timing uncertainty, be prepared for storms starting in the afternoon. Watch for new developments and/or changes in the First Alert Weather app.

Showers and strong to severe storms will move southeastward across the Midstate Sunday evening, producing occasional severe weather.

DAY OF MEMORIAL:

Monday begins with showers and thunderstorms moving southeast.

Although a cold front could bring further showers to Nashville in the late morning, the general trend on Monday is toward improving weather.

The probability of rain in Nashville is 30%.

TUESDAY & AFTER:

Isolated showers are possible, the front will strengthen on Tuesday.

Otherwise, it looks much drier and brighter from Tuesday to Friday next week.
