GA SOS releases 2020 Fulton County “double voting” investigation results

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office has determined that Fulton County used improper procedures in the recount of the closely contested 2020 presidential election, but that did not change the outcome of the contest.

During a meeting with the Georgia State Board of Elections on Tuesday, State Department General Counsel Charlene McGowan said: “The conclusion of this investigation … is that Fulton County used improper procedures in the recount of the 2020 presidential race.”

McGowan also said the investigation uncovered some duplicate ballot images provided to Fulton County, suggesting some ballots may have been scanned more than once.

The Secretary of State’s Office began its investigation after a complaint was filed on July 8, 2022, alleging vote counting irregularities on 17,852 ballots.

McGowan stressed that the outcome of the investigation does not change the overall outcome of the election, an election in which Joe Biden became the first Democrat since 1992 to lead a deep Southern state on his way to ousting his predecessor in the Oval Office, Donald Trump.

“This investigation confirmed what we already knew,” McGowan said. “We learned nothing new from this investigation.”

In August 2023, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed charges against Trump and 17 others for participating in a criminal, racketeering-like attempt to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.

Trump and the remaining co-defendants (four have reached plea deals with Willis’ office) are formally appealing a judge’s decision allowing Willis to remain in the case.

Georgia is at the center of the rematch between Biden and Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Both Biden and Trump are the respective presumptive Democratic and Republican candidates for president, setting the stage for a historic rematch of their campaigns in 2020. So far in the election season, polls have been well within the margins of error in every poll, giving the Peach State is practically a failure.

In 2020, Biden won Georgia by fewer than 12,000 votes.
