Israel intensifies attacks on Rafah, defying court ruling – POLITICO

Israeli politicians immediately condemned the ruling and announced that they would not abide by it. The Foreign Ministry described the South African genocide allegations that led to the International Court of Justice’s ruling as “false, outrageous and morally reprehensible.”

The ICJ’s ruling is legally binding, but the court has no enforcement powers of its own.

EU officials urged Israel to comply with the orders. “The ICJ orders are binding on the parties and must be fully and effectively implemented,” said Josep Borrell, the EU’s highest-ranking foreign policy representative, in a post on X.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares also called for an end to the attack on Rafah. “We also need a ceasefire, the release of hostages and humanitarian aid. The suffering of the Gaza residents and the violence must end,” he said on X.
