Hampton Roads District | Weekly Traffic Alert for Hampton Roads District: May 28 to June 1, 2024

**VDOT will close many highway construction areas and lift most lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia for holiday traffic beginning at noon Friday, May 24 through noon Tuesday, May 28. Read the statewide holiday traffic news release here.**

NOTE: This list includes full closures of highways, ramps, bridges and main roads, as well as lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkeley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.

*Scheduled closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridges and tunnels:

HRBT expansion project:

Elizabeth River Tunnel (Downtown/Midtown Tunnel):

I-64, widening of the south side, extension of the high-rise bridge:

I-64, Hampton:

• Short, temporary closures on I-64 in both directions from LaSalle Avenue (Exit 265) and the Hampton River Bridge May 29-30 from midnight to 4 a.m.
• Long-term, continuous one-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing lanes from three to two between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (Exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (Exit 265), with traffic on I-64 West shifting to the I-64 East lanes. View full traffic alert.

I-64, Norfolk:

• Full closure of I-64 East/West ramps from Northampton Boulevard from May 28-30 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
• Long-term full closure of the I-64 East on-ramp from Tidewater Drive South, with a new left turn at Thole Street for access to I-64 East.
• Long-term traffic shift to the inner median on I-64 in both directions between Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road (Exit 276)

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes:

Norfolk, reversible lane:

• Full closure in both directions:
  • 28-31 May from 8pm to 3am
  • 29-31 May from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Chesapeake/Norfolk/Virginia Beach:

• Express Lane eastbound at Twin Bridges closed on May 28th from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Express Lane westbound on Great Bridge Boulevard (Exit 292) closed in May 29 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264, Virginia Beach:

• Full closure of the driveway:
  • to I-264 East out of Lynnhaven Parkway May 28 to 1 June from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • to I-264 West from bird neck Street 28 May to 1 June from 9pm to 7am
• Full closure of the exit:
  • out of I-264 East To London Bridge Boulevard (Exit 19C) May 28 to 1 June from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • from I-264 East to First Colonial Street North South (Exit 21AWAY) May 28 to 1 June from 10pm to 5am
  • from I-264 West to First Colonial Road (Exit 21) May 28 to June 1 from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • from I-264 East to bird neck Street (Exit 22) 2.May8 to 1 June from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

I-264, Portsmouth:

• Full closure of the I-264 West ramp from Greenwood Drive on May 30 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
