Day of severe weather warning: Isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon

WE’RE OFF TO A REALLY NICE START ON THE MORNING OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. BUT AS THE DAY GOES ON WE’LL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER, RIGHT? A VERY SUMMERY PATTERN HERE. WE’LL SEE SOME STORMS MOVING IN BY THE AFTERNOON. THAT’S REALLY THE TIME THAT’S GOING TO REALLY STAND OUT FOR TODAY WITH SEVERE WEATHER WARNING. NOW STARTING TO SEE SOME SUMMERY COLORS AS THE SUN RISES HIGHER IN THE SKY THIS SATURDAY MORNING. BEAUTIFUL AND CALM PICTURE AS WE LOOK DOWNTOWN. BUT AGAIN THINGS WILL CHANGE AS WE MOVE ON INTO THE AFTERNOON. RIGHT NOW WE ARE A LITTLE BETWEEN THE FRONTS. There’s a warm front trying to push forward that will bring a layer of warmth and a little more moisture throughout the day. As the cold front approaches, that’s really upon us. It’s what’s causing some of those afternoon thunderstorms. As far as severe weather coverage goes, it seems pretty isolated, but even so, any storm that does develop will pack a hefty punch, with some very heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding. Damaging winds and large hail are also a concern. OF COURSE, TRY TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME OUTSIDE TO VISIT THIS UNOFFICIAL START OF SUMMER. LIGHTNING WILL ALSO BE AN ISSUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY, SO IT COULD START AS FAR AS 1-2 PM THIS AFTERNOON. YOU’LL SOON NOTICE THE GENERAL ISOLATION OF SOME OF THESE STRONGER CELLS. WE’LL CONTINUE ALL DAY. THE MOST COVERAGE OF RAIN AND GROWTH WILL BE FROM LATE AFTERNOON UNTIL ABOUT DINNER TIME. ONCE WE START OUT AFTER DARK IT’S ALL OVER. ALL NIGHT WILL BE CALM, WITH ONLY A FEW FIELDS OF FOG TO DEAL WITH TOMORROW. TOMORROW WILL BE COMPLETELY DRY AND REALLY THE BEST DAY OF THE THREE DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND TO GET OUTSIDE FOR SOME OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. BUT THEN IT STARTS AGAIN. ALL NIGHT. SUNDAY THROUGH MEMORIAL DAY. WE’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO TAKE ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS AND SOME OF THESE STORM CONDITIONS COULD LAST ALL DAY ON MEMORIAL DAY. SO OF COURSE THERE WILL BE A LOT OF CELEBRATIONS AND PARADES AS WELL. CERTAINLY WE’LL BE WATCHING THE WEATHER VERY CLOSELY AT THAT POINT. WE’LL KEEP IT A BAD DAY. BUT THE SEVERE WEATHER CONCERNS ARE CONTINUING, MAINLY TO MAKE THINGS TERRIBLE AGAIN. LIKELY MEMORIAL DAY ON MONDAY. BUT TODAY IS A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING DAY STARTING WITH SOME SUNSHINE AND TURNING TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. ANOTHER WARM DAY WITH HIGHS IN THE MID-30S. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL STOP AFTER DARKNESS, THEN THERE WILL BE SOME AREAS OF FOG WHEN WE WAKE UP ON SUNDAY. SOME INTERMITTENT SUNSHINE IN THE AFTERNOON. STILL VERY WARM. TEMPERATURES WILL BE A GOOD 10 TO 12 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE. IT WILL RAIN AGAIN LATE TO NIGHT AND THAT WILL STAY UNTIL MEMORIAL DAY ON MONDAY. POSSIBLE SOME THUNDERSTORMS ALSO. So again, just one day of impact at this point. Temperatures will start to cool down as we enter next week. Highs will get a little closer to normal, even above 18 degrees again. Looking ahead to Wednesday with some lingering rain chances, it will be drier and warmer too. Temperatures will be back above 25 degrees as we enter next weekend, including on the first day of June. But the main takeaway for the bank holiday weekend is that it wasn’t a washout, but of course it could be a little busier this afternoon.
