The charges stem from a July 13 traffic altercation on Newman Avenue in which Furtado fired a gun at a car driven by a 25-year-old Fall River woman, court records show.

The rear window of the woman’s car was shattered, but she was not physically injured and was able to call the police and get to safety, authorities said.

According to a police report, in two separate incidents that same night on Border Avenue and Pine Street, Furtado fired a gun at two parked vehicles containing people Furtado knew.

According to court records, he has been in jail since his arrest without incident that night when police stopped his SUV at the corner of Central and Edwards Avenue.

Police found a .22-caliber handgun in his vehicle. In addition, police executed a search warrant at his home and found gun parts and tools used to build an AR-15-style assault rifle, court records show.

Prior to his arraignment, Furtado faced a number of charges in Taunton District Court, including armed assault with intent to murder and unlawful possession of a large capacity animal feeding device.

However, according to court records, a grand jury only indicted him on the four counts to which he pleaded guilty on Friday.
