The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has been suspended from party membership in Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

District Chairman Thompson Ehiguese announced the suspension in a letter to Abure.

Ehiguese said the decision was taken after careful deliberation on his alleged arrogance and anti-party activities, as well as the fraud allegations against him.

“Although the suspension takes effect immediately, you are advised not to impersonate or display your identity as a member of the Labour Party, Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan, North East Local Government Area of Edo State,” Ehiguese said.

In a press conference in Benin on Friday evening, the LP chairman in Edo State, Kelly Ogbaloi, said the state executive council had no choice but to approve the suspension, which was also ratified by the party’s executive council in Esan local government area in the north-east of the state.

Amid loud applause from numerous party supporters, deputy national chairman Patrick Agbontaen sharply criticized Abure, who he said had led the party poorly.

He said the party had had enough of the series of allegations against the federal chairman and fully agreed with the decision to suspend him until further notice.
