UC Davis police officer accidentally fires gun during arrest

DAVIS, Calif. – A UC Davis police officer accidentally fired his weapon while arresting three people for vandalism on campus Friday morning, authorities said.

Police said it happened around 1:40 a.m. after several buildings had been sprayed with graffiti and they were called to Mrak Hall because of graffiti on the Egghead sculptures.

Three people were seen spray painting other Eggheads near the Art Building and fleeing, prompting police to launch a chase. All three people were arrested, after which the officer “accidentally” fired their weapon, officials say. No one was injured and it is unclear how the weapon was fired.

The incident is under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
